Metropolis at Metrotown Partners with Tourism Burnaby to Amplify Halloween Offerings at Fall Fun at the Met

Metropolis at Metrotown and Tourism Burnaby have joined forces to cast a spooky spell over BC’s biggest shopping centre! Starting September 16, and running until October 31, Metropolis at Metrotown’s Fall Fun at the Met will raise the bar for family-friendly Halloween fun with a haunting escape room, a pumpkin carving show, and a pie-eating contest.

Now an annual tradition, Fall Fun at the Met embraces the spirit of the season with themed displays and immersive décor. This year, Metropolis at Metrotown has enlisted the help of Tourism Burnaby to dial up the Halloween element by incorporating the Burnaby Halloween Festival into the Fall Fun at the Met experience.

A spooky escape room. Ghost Hunt: Hauntington Manor, produced by Bamboozled Escape Games, invites groups of two to eight players to enter a dimly lit mansion where ghostly whispers echo through the walls and evil entities lurk in the darkness. Armed with a ghostbustin’ laser, participating ghost-hunters solve puzzles and complete action-based tasks to save the manor’s lost souls. This 25-minute experience was designed for adults; while there is no gore, the startling and spooky atmosphere requires that children 7 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult (ages 19+); youth ages 13 and older can participate on their own. Dates: October 1-31; check the website for available time slots. Cost: $20 for adults and $15 for kids aged 7-12 (inclusive of GST). Reservations are encouraged and can be booked online.

  • Pumpkin-carving palooza. A parade of expertly carved jack-o-lanterns by master pumpkin carver Michael Valeroso await in the Grand Court, providing the perfect Halloween photo opp. Date: October 12, 11am-5pm.

  • Pie-eating pop-up shop. Don your stretchy pants and head over to the Met’s Grand Court for a good old-fashioned pie-eating contest, sponsored by The Pie Hole. Two contests will determine who can scarf down the most dessert, with the winner earning a $300 Metropolis at Metrotown gift card. Date: October 19; pop-up shop: 11am-3pm (or until pies sell out); 1st contest: 1pm; 2nd contest: 2pm.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Metropolis at Metrotown offers many more Fall Fun at the Met activities, including:

  • Halloween makeup demo. Hosted by MAC, this Halloween beauty workshop will showcase three haunting Halloween looks to elevate your makeup for the holiday. Dates: The Halloween beauty demos will take place on the ground level outside of Bath & Body Works on Friday, October 18 at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm; and Saturday, October 19 at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Bonus: Shoppers who pre-book a one-on-one in-store service to achieve their Halloween glam look ($45, plus tax) will receive 20% off all products purchased.

  • Fall Fun at the Met décor. As with every holiday, Metropolis at Metrotown will transform into a breezy fall tableau with plenty of picture-perfect photo backdrops. The centre’s fall décor is anchored by a Grand Court display of giant pumpkins stacked 34 feet high, with mice, giant leaves, and grass vines intertwined throughout.

  • Halloween delights. Pop by Metropolis at Metrotown on Halloween for a full day of trick-or-treating at retail stores throughout the shopping centre. Between 1pm-5pm, kiddos can see a balloon twister demonstration, get their faces painted by Kidoodles Art Studio, or pose in their Halloween costumes at the Photo Crumb photo booth. Date: October 31 (1pm-5pm)

“Fall Fun at the Met has never looked better – our collaboration with Tourism Burnaby has really upped the ante for fall experiences in the region,” said Amanda Chung, marketing manager, Metropolis at Metrotown. “Our selection of seasonal activities were designed with the entire family in mind, so we encourage everyone in the community to visit the centre for a dose of fall fun.”

"We're excited to partner with Metropolis at Metrotown again this year, expanding what our Halloween Festival can offer in the heart of Burnaby,” said Chris Peters, executive director, Tourism Burnaby. “This collaboration allows us to bring even more Halloween excitement to the community, and we couldn’t be happier about what’s in store. With nearby activities like Pumpkins After Dark and Haunted Village at the Burnaby Village Museum, Burnaby is quickly becoming the Halloween capital of the Lower Mainland!”

Metropolis at Metrotown’s Fall Fun at the Met takes place September 16 to October 31, 2024. The shopping centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10am-9pm, and Sunday, 11am-7pm. For more information, visit www.metropolisatmetrotown.com
